Shu Uemura Vitamin C Intense Brightening Serum

The Way We C It

I have to admit that I have spent some time in the tanning beds.  I love the bronze look it gives my skin.  But when it started causing sun spots I had to stop because there is no way that I want to damage my skin permanently.  I know how bad tanning is for my skin and I’ve stopped but I still have to live with some of the damage that it has caused.

One way I have found to get rid of some of the damage is using Vitamin C serums.  There are tons of products that are less than stellar but I have read several positive reviews about Shu Uemura products so I decided to put my trust in one of their products and see whether or not it would be effective at reducing sun spots like they claim it will.  Shu Uemura Vitamin C Intense Brightening Serum is supposed to control pigmentation from the source in order to brighten the skin and reduce spots on the surface of your skin.  There don’t seem to be many reviews written specifically for this product but since consumers have found results from some of the other products maybe they really have created some decent products!

Shu Uemura Vitamin C Intense Brightening Serum Ingredients

  • Glycerin: Pulls water from the air and holds it to your skin
  • Dimethicone: A stabilizing agent or thickener
  • Ascorbic Acid: A water-soluble, natural form of Vitamin C that cannot penetrate the surface of the skin. Ascorbic acid loses its strength after 24 hours and breaks down rapidly. Oxidized Vitamin C increases  free radical formation and may cause skin irritation, burns and rashes
  • Salicylic Acid: Exfoliates the skin and improves it’s color and texture
  • Other Ingredients: maris aqua / sea water, aqua / water, neopentyl glycol dicaprate, alcohol denat, caprylic/capric triglyceride, butylene glycol, sucrose tristearate, potassium hydroxide, sodium styrene/ma copolymer, steareth-10, phenoxyethanol, sodium stearoyl glutamate, acrylates/c10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, 2-oleamido-1,3-octadecanediol, hydrogenated lecithin, xanthan gum, tetrasodium edta, hexyl cinnamal, butylphenyl methylpropional, prunus yedoensis leaf extract, linalool, benzyl salicylate, hydrolyzed prunus domestica, citronellol, benzyl benzoate, geraniol, benzyl alcohol, parfum / fragrance

Pros

  • Previously Shu Uemura has created effective products
  • Limits the production of melanin to reduce sun and age spots
  • Can lighten existing sun and age spots

Cons

  • Expensive at $95 for 30 ml
  • No scientific research
  • No guarantee
  • May cause skin irritation

Conclusion

We appreciate that Shu Uemura Vitamin C Intense Brightening Serum is doing something to help get rid of sun spots.  The formula doesn’t appear to be the strongest or most powerful serum on the market and since they don’t back up the claims with either a guarantee or scientific research I am wary to recommend this as one of the top products.  Some of their other products such as concealers have been rated highly by consumers but the Vitamin C serum does not appear to be one of those.  Due to the salicylic acid and the ascorbic acid it could irritate your skin.  In addition, you may notice that your skin is dry and flaky although including glycerin in the formula could certainly help to combat this problem.  If you have noticed younger looking skin and reduced pigmentation feel free to write a review and let us know if the results make this expensive price tag worth it.
